The Galaxy team is very similar to our customers in that we are passionate about making positive, lasting change in the communities in which we serve. Creating simple, community engagement software and supporting our customers to the absolute best of our ability is how we make that happen.
Experience: Doss graduated from Auburn University with a degree in Marketing and began his career with a boutique ad agency in Birmingham. Opportunities in the sales, marketing, and publishing industries along with the day-to-day running of a family business opened the door to a decade of work that would lead him to NYC, where he worked at various global ad agencies. He then moved to Asheville where he helped build a multi-million dollar sales organization and would eventually discover a passion for entrepreneurism. His love for music and social technology inspired him to create a business plan for one of his first start-ups: a musician-centric social network. Although that idea was short-lived, it was this endeavor that gave him the experience with web-technology and fundraising that he and business partner Jim Nimblett would later use in 2009 to successfully launch Galaxy Digital.
Fun Stuff: Doss is happily married with three amazing kids, he plays soccer whenever he’s not injured (which is often, unfortunately!), volunteers with his local United Way, and writes music and performs live around Asheville from time to time.
Experience: Jim Nimblett is Co-Founder and CTO at Galaxy. Jim specializes in large-scale web-based applications and has been building/running/hosting social networking sites since 2003.
Jim’s background and ongoing interest is in open-source technologies and his expertise is in LAMP technology (Linux, Apache, MySQL, and PHP). Jim’s unique blend of vision and technical expertise makes him perfect for the role of lead programmer and CTO for the Galaxy team.
When he’s not grinding out code or helping shape the product vision at Galaxy, Jim enjoys playing with his daughter Ella, going on dates with his wife Krissy, and experimenting with home brew recipes in his man-cave.
Experience: Although he is originally from the Rust Belt, Andy has spent his entire professional career in the South. After graduating from Baldwin-Wallace University outside of Cleveland, Andy spent two years in Spartanburg, SC working with AmeriCorps. During that time, he focused on building community relationships and implementing new technology. While at United Way of the Piedmont, he even wrote the manual for the very first Get Connected system. That’s how he got in touch with Galaxy Digital, and he was hired as the Director of Training and Customer Success and later as Head of Product, Get Connected.
Fun Stuff: Now Asheville is home, where he volunteers for the local United Way, and spends the rest of his time playing board games, training running, and baking.
Patrick joined up with Galaxy Digital in March 2014 where he has worked on custom projects and contributed heavily to Get Connected’s 2.0 upgrade.
Work experience: After graduating from the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at UNC-Chapel Hill, Elisabeth became a senior account manager for Saga Communication’s local radio stations. Over the next decade, she worked with local and national businesses to reach their target markets and increase sales/services through radio, events, and online media. Elisabeth then became a Loaned Executive with the local United Way and perfected her elevator speech. After a few years as account manager and campaign coordinator for a Steelcase dealership, she welcomed her daughter and joined the Business Development team at Galaxy Digital.
Fun Stuff: She is a member of our local United Way’s Highlands Circle for young professionals. In her spare time, Elisabeth chases after a tottering baby, changes diapers, and watches her daughter loudly greet strangers at the outdoor concerts that start by 6pm.
Work experience: Nina graduated from Mary Baldwin College in Staunton, VA with B.A. in English and minors in biology and music (piano performance). A few years later, she got her M.A. in English at LSU, after which she got her first technical writing job. Most of her professional work since then has been in technical writing, with a few back-and-forth career switches to education, teaching English in high school and college. At Galaxy Digital, her job is a nice mix of technical writing and teaching/training, and Nina enjoys being able to use the career skills she has gained in both fields.
Fun stuff: Her hobbies include hiking, reading, creative writing, piano, and fitness.
Experience: Michelle graduated from Appalachian State University in Boone, NC with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and minors in Spanish and Women’s Studies. Since graduation, she has worked in Washington, D.C. for international and national nonprofits’ campaigns and as a pre-K teacher in Asheville. After working with children for a few years, she moved to the realm of training and motivating adults by helping them change the world with Get Connected. Working at Galaxy Digital combines her passions–advancing the tireless work of non-profits, teaching others, and interacting with people who share her goal of making communities stronger. Michelle has loved building positive, engaging relationships with clients and motivating them to make Get Connected a staple for their organizations.
Fun Stuff: Michelle performs all around Asheville as a jazz, hip-hop, and modern dancer. She also serves on the board for a local non-profit, Anam Cara Theatre Company. Michelle practices yoga daily and learned all her posing skills from her cats. Michelle is also a home chef, adventurous traveler, chicken owner, and all-things-local enthusiast. She spends a considerable amount of time thinking about how she can insert a bad pun into conversations, firmly believes there’s nothing an order of tacos and a Beyonce song can’t fix, and loves writing down all her musings in her blog.
Experience: Since graduating with a B.S. in Industrial Design from Virginia Tech in 2010, Dave has had a wide variety of professional experiences. Among these, he’s worked as drummer in a touring rock band, freelance designer, ceramicist, and restaurant manager. Dave’s diverse background gives him a unique proclivity for coming up with creative solutions to complex problems. He joined Galaxy Digital in 2015, and couldn’t be happier to work with such a wonderful team!
Fun Stuff: When Dave’s not at work, you’ll probably find him on a soccer field or taking in a show at one of Asheville’s awesome music venues. He loves to travel on his days off, but also loves coming home to his little, tiny dog Lupe.
Experience: Alison grew up on a military base which provided her with a healthy work ethic and the inspiration to be an asset to her community. Most importantly, she learned how to handle the tough guys and make friends with everyone around her. This helped Alison become a swiss Army knife of customer service experiences. From organizing large scale events to helping kids match their shoes, from coordinating fleets of delivery cars to handling the tiniest detail of a law contract, Alison can get it all done (and with a smile, to boot!). Her involvement with the public and passion for helping people magnified her belief that improving even one person’s day is worth the effort. She is motivated by a challenge and enjoys problem-solving. All of these elements contribute to her love for helping Get Connected users utilize the site to its fullest potential.
Fun stuff: Alison loves planning events here in Asheville and performing in various dance productions. She enjoys supporting her local arts and cultural community through advocacy and volunteer support. When she isn’t out and about in her community, she enjoys spending time with her dog, Sagan, and learning to cook.
Experience: After getting her Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Business, plus a year spent studying Interior Design, Miranda moved to South Carolina, where she began working for an agricultural retailer. She was transferred to Asheville, NC, and quickly fell in love with the beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Miranda later worked as an advertising sales consultant for newspapers in Asheville, Florence, SC and then Wilmington, NC before returning to Asheville to work in the environmental festivals business. She considers herself fortunate to be part of the Galaxy Digital team; Miranda enjoys interacting with customers to provide them with the solutions to meet their needs.
Fun stuff: Miranda is an animal lover and rescuer; she has a Border Collie, a miniature Australian Shepherd and a cat. She is also passionate about protecting our environment and living in this beautiful area. She loves cooking, gardening, and spending time with her spouse, Steff.
Experience: In 2016, Annelise graduated from the University of North Carolina at Asheville with a Bachelor of Arts in Photography and a minor in Anthropology. As a student, she helped manage and develop content for the Department of Art website. She cultivated an interest in the nonprofit sector after taking service-learning courses as an undergraduate. In fact, she first encountered Galaxy Digital’s software when it connected her with a volunteer opportunity at the Hillcrest Resource Center! Working with people and subcultures interests her on an anthropological level and informs her photographic practice. At Galaxy Digital, she gets to combine her love of media, people, and “paying it forward” in her community. She couldn’t be more thrilled to start her career with the fun, smart, and inspirational team at Galaxy Digital.
Fun Stuff: Annelise is an avid traveler, photographer, and reader. When she’s not at Galaxy Digital, you can find her studying Japanese, binge-watching television, or parenting her two cats, Gatsby and Stella.
